Artist Statement
Inspiration surrounds me. Be it the architecture of prewar Manhattan towers, Brutalist facades, or modernist museums. Their lines, symmetry, textures, and shapes draw me in, sparking my imagination. In them I find a sense of order and beauty.
I am also highly inspired by the natural world and the powers that wind and water have upon the landscape. From weathered desert towers to boulders scarred by glacial melt, their pock marks, ripples, lines, and fissures all tell a story.
As an artist, I combine these disparate sources of inspiration into my work. My work is a reflection of the manmade world meeting the natural world with textures dominating form, which are architectural and yet primitive in nature. My hope is that it inspires the viewer, sparking inquiry, wonderment, and conversation.
Bio
From a young age Tara's creativity was encouraged. She spent hours as a child drawing. For decades her father carried a small crayon drawing she made titled Desert Dan in his wallet. In college, she majored in art, exploring the world of intaglio printmaking with the renowned Malcolm Myers, learning how to burn and dodge in the darkroom, and finding a passion for sculpture through oxy-aceylene and MIG welding. She earned a BFA from the University of Minnesota and worked as a professional metal sculpture artist before returning to the University to pursue a Masters in Education. In the following year's she found her creative outlet through designing marketing materials and websites. She has now come full circle once again pursuing her first passion, art, with exuberance.
